The Concept
From Africa to Japan or from North America to South Korea, masks symbolyze unseen supernatural forces that transfor the wearer in a superior spiritual beeing that protects it’s own tribal group.
Urban Tribes take many forms in our modern society and one of the most recognizable of such groups are the skateboarders.
Skaters tribal groups, or subcultures, around the globe are often built around strong identities that are propagated through the use of specific language, actitudes and symbols that are mainly anti-system or counter-hegemonic.
Skaters share the same values around the globe but each subcultural urban tribe has it’s own supernatural identity mask.
The Objective
The creation of eight mask that blend with different Japanese element such as patterns, mythological charachters, supernatural personages and/or quotes.
The Masks
Eight mask for eight tribes from around the world.
South and North Japan, Mexico, North American Natives, South American Aztecs, South Korea, India and Africa.
